Vegan Attempts: An Absolute Failure

As you guys are aware if you’ve ever followed this blog, I try my very hardest to be vegan. For the most part, it’s rather enjoyable and interesting to discover things I can substitute for dairy or meat in order to eat the things I love. Sometimes, it’s nice to be conscious of what you put in your body on a daily basis and require yourself to think before you eat. However, one of the worst things about being vegan is missing out on the glorious thing that is cheese. Cheese is beautiful and delicious and if you love it like I do, it can be a full meal all on its own. They are fabulous substitutes of milk and eggs, but I have found dairy free cheese to be the grossest stuff ever (although I haven’t tried every brand). Daiya makes amazing dairy free stuff and so I set out to try making vegan mac and cheese, aka my favorite meal of all time.

I used just these ingredients because I wasn’t about to get all fancy with it and have it taste gross so I decided to keep it simple and hope for the best.

Processed with VSCO with p5 preset

First, I cooked the pasta and put a little of the pasta water with it because thats what PROFESSIONALS do thanks.

Processed with VSCO with p5 preset

I added equal parts milk and cheese and started melting it. Usually, with regular cheese and milk there’s more milk but since this is weird cheese and different milk I just made them equal so it wouldn’t be runny.

Processed with VSCO with p5 preset

It took foreeevveerrrrrr to melt and was extremely liquidy and so I got a lil nervous and added more cheese.

As it was melting, it smelled exactly like a boiling pot of playdoh. No joke. Here’s me feeling very nervous and hungry

Here’s it looking a lil weird, but fully melted!

And wow here’s the finishing product looks soo good right?

Here’s me chickening out cause it smells so bad and I don’t wanna eat it at all….

And here’s me thinking yes tastes exactly as it smells a steaming pile of playdoh with noodles

In conclusion:

So yeah, learn from me and don’t do this!!!! Maybe I’ll try some other cheeses and attempt this again, but for nowI am scared of vegan cheese and will not be attempting this until the playdoh taste is out of my mouth!

Live From New York it’s the Sunday Vibes

Before we begin I gotta talk about this cute as shit little bakery right next my apartment I discovered (actually Kristen did when looking at my location on Find My Friends so shout out to her). It’s super tiny, but cute and there’s cat decorations all over the place. Bonus is that most of their stuff is gluten free and everything is vegan. Sometimes living in Brooklyn annoys me, but this is one of those times where Brooklyn is cool as heck.

Beauty¡

This week I thought I’d give a little tutorial on how I do my eyeshadow. This is how I do it when I’m going out and wanna look fancy!

IMG_0681.JPG

So I’m using this Kylie Jenner Palette, the Burgundy Palette. I may not like Kylie Jenner very much (like who cares if she’s pregnant barf me), but I gotta admit, her eyeshadow is really good. Super pigmented and I don’t have to use a whole bunch of it to achieve the color I want.

Processed with VSCO with p5 preset

I’m gonna be using the red colors cause they match the scarf I’m wearing tonight (cause I’m matchy matchy af). Most people who do their makeup start with the eyes but I never understood that tbh. I wanna go for a more dramatic look so I’m gonna put tape on the side of my eyes to help get a cat eye without free handing it.

I just kinda eye ball it and hope I get them straight (sometimes works sometimes they’re crooked because I am just a girl not an expert). I make sure to put on eyeshadow primer, I use the Two Faced one.

I usually start with the more glittery part on my eye lid and then the more matte shade in my crease. Next I’m gonna line my eyes with black shadow and smudge it out. I used the Naked two palette and the last black shade.

Processed with VSCO with p5 preset

I sort of do a triangle thing in the corner of my eye. I also highlight my brow bone and the other corner of my eye. This is the finished product!

I usually don’t go this dramatic but the opera calls for the dramatic right? Right.

Double Layer Satin Cami @ Express $39.90

Got this beauty on sale at Express and I am in lurrrrveeeeee. I paired it with this top because I like the contrasting fabrics of satin and leather, but you can do lace as well! It’s super high waisted which I love (honestly if anything goes back to low-rise I will have to just go into hiding). I wore it with stocking and booties a few weekends ago and you can also do OTK boots. Also express has $25 off of $100 right now just FYI you’re welcome.

Had another Saturday where my brain violently did not want to workout. I decided maybe I should start incorporating some yoga in my life sine people rave about it a lot. I’ve tried it before but I usually find it so slow and I get tired of it very easily. This one however was relatively fast paced and I actually was slightly sweaty after. I only burned about 150 cal (which I tried not to stress about) but I felt pretty tight and toned afterwards. Might have to go against my extreme cardio nature and do this more often (maybe).

So I finally finished the first season of Riverdale (its been on my Netflix list for agggeeessssss). To sum it up, its kinda like a more fast paced Pretty Little Liars (or should I say better cause it took 40 years to find out who A is). There were a couple weird parts like when Veronica and Cheryl have this like dance off and its very weird and cringe-worthy. I guess it’s more directed toward idk people in actual high school, but some parts make me barfy(like how much they SING). I am patiently waiting for season two to be on Netflix despite my judgment. Here’s hoping I don’t quit it in the middle for season 4 like I did with PLL. Only so much “who done it? Find out in three years” a person can take.

THIS.BOOK. Obviously one of my favorite authors and this book reels you in with the first chapter, its insane. I haven’t technically finished it yet, although I read it till 3 am last night for no other reason than I couldn’t stop. Its all about true crime and thriller stuff but thats all I’ll say cause when I first started reading it I also had no idea what it was about, so you should be blinded and delightfully surprised as well.

Pandora decided it was going to keep crashing my phone, so it had to go. Luckily, I found a playlist I liked on Spotify that I loved just as much. I only have two settings when it comes to Christmas: classic Christmas and jazzy Christmas. Unfortunately, Spotify can only satisfy one at a time.

Katie Does NYC Things

Kept it a little low-key this weekend and just went to Opera (I think I just contradicted myself?). I felt like an old bitty complaining about today’s uncultured youth anytime I told anyone what I was doing that night. But also a very fancy old bitty. Then my friend proceed to inform me this was probably gonna last about 3 hours and I started to feel a little less fancy and little more worried I would die of boredom. The Opera was Thaïs which is basically about this godly man trying to convert this promiscuous lady to become a nun. It works, but not before he decides he loves her and doesn’t wanna be godly anymore (men are fickle beings). The first act was a little dull and I began to fear that I wouldn’t make it through all three, but to be fair, the first Act was a lot of praying and exclaiming. Also the entire thing was in French (which I only knew because I recognized the word for garden thanks 4 years of french!), so you have to read the words on the little screen in front of you (thankful for the little screen otherwise what a snooze fest). The second and third acts were more entertaining with this famous violin solo in the middle of Act II and III. If you’ve ever watched a cartoon in the 90s I feel like this was in an episode somewhere (or maybe I made that up but I recognize it!!). Then I was like “if I like this am I a weird nerd?” but then when was I ever to a nerd? There were a few funny parts (I don’t think they meant them to be funny) like when a guy threw a bunch of cash in the air to distract them so Thaīs and the guy (whatever his name is) could get away cause that is definitely a sure fire way to distract me too. All in all something I would definitely do again if I ever wanna feel  •cultured•

Secrets time: I never not have my nails done. Sometimes they’re chipped or whatever, but if i have nothing on them? Assume I’ve been body snatched. I picked this baby up at Target and its gorgeous. I usually don’t worry too much about brands when it comes to nail stuff I just go for the colors I like, I like using glittery colors for accent nail (or nails if I’m feeling sãssy).

So for my birthday, I really wanted some Bauble Bar earrings sort of as a treat yo self because they’re like 50 bucks for one pair. Luckily, I decided to get my outfit first and spotted these at Express! Literally exactly what I was looking for only $24! AND they are having a sale on jewelry right now so they’re $15 right now! So naturally I got black and grey cause why not? Don’t spend $50 on earrings if you don’t have to am I right ladies.

Sir Kensington’s Fabanaise Chipotle Mayo @ Whole Foods $8.00

OKAY IF YOU READ NOTHING ELSE IN THIS WHOLE BLOG JUST READ THIS!!!! I have found the holy grail. It was located in Whole Foods right next to work all innocent and harmless looking and it has now taken over my life. Bought this literally on a whim just to try it because I love chipotle mayo. I have now put it on: a veggie burger, my kale salad, literally just dipped cherry tomatoes in it, a grilled cheese, and my finger. I really don’t know how this stuff is vegan and yet so amazing but I decide not to question it. All the ingredients you can read and pronounce, nothing weird or sketchy. I have never been so happy about being vegan. Seriously gets because no one is paying me to say its this good.

Fitness¿¡

So I wanted to talk about something I’ve been doing for almost a year now which is called interval fasting. I started last spring semester simply because my class schedule was so crazy in the morning that I just didn’t have time to eat and hated eating in front of  people in class or scarfing it down in my car right before class, so I just waited till around 12 to eat everyday. Then I learned there was an actual term for that. I find it really helps my body restart in the morning when I just drink a bunch of water and then have coffee before I eat anything. The most important part is to have water and a lot of it in the mornings just to sort of clear your head for the day. I like doing and definitely recommend. I also usually stop eating at 8pm which means I only eat for about 8 hours. I tend to go to bed around 10 so this really helps me digest everything before I sleep! Definitely recommend trying this if you’re trying to be a little healthier and kinder to your body!

1922 on Netflix

So maybe I’ve been listening to too many podcasts about crime and murderers but now it has migrated to me watching movies about it too. I’m actually loving all of these Stephen King movies so maybe I should start reading his books now? This one was about a man who kills his wife with the help of his son in order to stay in the farm life and not move to the city of Omaha. Tbh I would also have to resort to murder if I was being forced to move to Omaha but thats just me. Very creepy would recommend.

So I tried to see this when it came out but the movie was sold out and I never visited it again cause I really never go to the movies anyway. I saw it was on HBO Go and could not resist watching it since it has fabulous reviews. It did not disappoint at all. The symbolism behind it was very spot on and just a fantastic movie. A must see for sure.

Ten Years EP by Aly & AJ

Since the release of their single i have been patiently waiting for their album release and this week they released an EP! Their sound has definitely changed a lot since they last put any music out, but not in a bad way at all. Overall just a chill few songs so I’m waiting for them to put out another jam like Take Me.

Katie Does NYC Things

Kept it pretty low-key this weekend after all the craziness of last weekend so I didn’t do too much.

Saturday I discover the target in tribeca which is almost as good as the one back home (almost). Ended up getting the cutest little tree for the apartment so I’m gearing up for Christmas and skipping Thanksgiving cause ick. One of my friends moved to Financial District so we went out to celebrate. I tried this club Bowery Electric and maybe I’m just not into the club scene without a promoter cause it was very blah. They also wouldn’t let you in a certain area without paying 10 dollars which is so unnecessarily boujee. I mean what if I go up there and its not even fun? Might as well light 10 bucks on fire. Thankfully I spent my 10 dollars at Prince street pizza instead which was a way better use of my money cause that pizza was amazing. I think its famous???? cause there were a bunch of celebrity pictures up. I didn’t appreciate the judgment when I ordered 3 pieces of pizza but I GUESS I’ll go back despite my shame because it was so good.

My 22nd Year

In case you haven’t heard, I turned 23 this week. Like woah. I feel like it’s one of those weird ages where people say “omg so young” but also just paid my credit card bill with birthday money, (it honestly burned my “treat yo self” loving soul a little bit), so I’m not thaaaattt young and carefree. Honestly curious how old I have to become before people stop commenting on how young I am. I feel like probably 30. I’ll just immediately transform into a business woman with 2.5 kids and mortgage.

Every year, I always think back to where I was at this time last year and refer and assess if I have actually learned anything this year. From last year at this time to this year there has been so many changes and adjustments and realizations in my life that I feel like I’m 5 years older and not just one. I have worked pretty hard to get where I am, typing this, both physically and mentally.

Here are some of the craziest/weirdest/best things I did this year:

  • Got my first job in retail in order to save more money

I knew I needed to get a job that paid me more than 200 bucks a month (that was on a good month where I went everyday that I could), so I decided retail would be okay. I’m so very glad I did because this basically got me the job I have now and who knows what I would be doing if I hadn’t made that decision.

  • Stopped letting dudes ruin my fun times

It took 22 years, but I finally decided to stop caring about dudes and my need to be talking to someone all the time just because I’m bored. I let a guy run me rampant for months right before my second semester and then I got to feel stupid and manipulated. I vowed right then, I will not let a guy make me feel stupid for giving him my energy and I have yet to feel that way again. Not saying I have in any way figured out my love life at all, but at least I’m not wasting my time.

  • Decided Veganism might not be the stupidest shit I’ve ever heard

What started out as a challenge between me and my roommate not to eat bread or sweets became a whole new lifestyle for me. Granted, I did watch a scary documentary about how gross meat is, but deciding to just see what happens has been pretty interesting. I’ve made brownies with zucchini that tasted like heaven and gotten to try a lot of food that I usually would turn my nose up at. I’ll still never be that health bitch that’s like “I only crave nuts and berries!!!!!” but balance is key right? Yolo?

  • Realizing I don’t need a gym to stay fit, but utilizing it when I got it

I’ve taken so many awesome and fun classes at the UREC because I was privileged enough to get them for free while in school. It’s really helped me figure out what I like in workouts and what I don’t. Unfortunately, this is not the case now that I’ve graduated, moved and don’t really have a gym close enough to where I live. It was super hard trying to get up and workout before work when I started my new job since I wasn’t used to being up so early. Thankfully, I found some amazing workouts on Youtube for free and got figured out what works for me, not just what I think I should be doing or how long I have to do it for.

  • Doing shit because I wanted to, not because it made sense or I had everything that came after, planned out

I have been privileged enough to be able to make decisions about my life that were suuupperrrr spontaneous and not very well thought out. This past year, I quit a job because it was literally causing me stress every single day, to the point where I didn’t do anything but work and school. I decided that that was not how I wanted to spend my last semester of college, so I left and never looked back. Thinking about it now, I’m so very glad I did that because I had the best spring semester I could’ve asked for, and I managed to make the Dean’s List (for once). Obviously also me moving my whole life to NYC and getting a big girl job but I talk about that enough.

And last but not least, I started this whole blogging journey. Still don’t really know what I’m doing with this thing but I’m doing something I guess! I honestly really enjoy writing it even if only 3 people actually pay attention to it. Overall, this 22nd year of my life has been wild, but definitely one of the best yet (if not the best).

Your Skin But Better CC+ Cream It Cosmetics @ Sephora $15.00 (small size)

Being totally real guys, I haven’t bought anything from Sephora in like, months. The issue is I spend way more than I want to every single time and so it’s better to never go in there at all. However, I was running out of Tinted Moisturizer and I really needed to stop jamming my brush into the bottle to get the last drop. So I went. I got a new tinted moisturizer since I said I would try to find something that wasn’t mf 45 bucks a bottle which is admittedly insane. Iv’e been hearing really good things about this one, I know its only like 7 dollars cheaper but my brain makes a huge jump from 30 to 40 okay!!!!!!!! And I got the tiny 15 dollar bottle. Anyway, another blogger named Katie (hay) recommended it, it won an Allure award for readers choice and has fab reviews from the Sephora website. So I bought both light and medium, but ultimately went with medium to match my self-tanner (lol).

Heres what both colors looked like on my skin:

Heres before and afters of my skin:

Tbh? Not super impressed. I like it, but its really not very different from what I was already using. The coverage looks to be about the same as NARS and feels about the same. I will say it is cheaper, so definitely worth checking out. I’m not going crazy about it since I still have to use coverup and I also wouldn’t say I’m necessarily using less of it either.

Buuuutttttt, I managed to get it right once this week so of course I documented it. I got so many compliments on my shoes, but I’m gonna be honest. THEY HURT SO BAD. I actually squealed in pain when I took them off at the end of the day. To be fair though, I’ve only worn them one other time. I cent tell if I still have to break them in, or just chuck them and call it a day. I’ll keep you updated. But they really are so cute. Also while looking for these on the Charlotte Russe website I realized they got some cute ass shoes. This top, is like my new favorite. Its shiny and slouchy and love the new sleeve detail trend so so much. Anndddd its on sale!!!

I started watching this because lately i’ve been obsessed with serial killers (in a totally normal not gonna be the next serial murderer kinda way), mostly because of my favorite murder. I liked the overall concept and it was pretty good, but the end of it was kinda, ehh. I was waiting for some big blow up or like something really crazy to happen and it was just, oh okay that was a little weird. Kinda bummed but I will definitely stay tuned for the next season whenever that will be.

So I decided to post about this song because Halloween vibezzzzz even though its old. I heard it first when I watched American Horror Story: Hotel (which is the best one don’t fight me on this), and the whole time its playing theres like a super gore-y murder going on but its such a bop. You think the song is actually about murder, but its really just about a dude having s crush on a girl (which tbh is pretty scary).

The Girl Before by J.P Delaney

This book was freakyyyy. Its about two different girls who go through a traumatic event in their lives, and move into this really crazy, high tech, minimal house. One of the girls dies in the house and then the other girl moves in and then all these strange similar things happen to the new girl in the house. I’m explaining it so bad but its good I promise. Plot twists throughout, but like a weird sad ending.

NYC Weekend Adventures™

So this weekend I went to a lot of cool bars!

Friday I finally experienced Mr. Purple, which sounds like some sort of trashy creep zone overtime I say the name of it out loud. It has a pretty awesome rooftop, although one drink is 17 dollars?? Since there’s no bag check, I suggest bringing a flask if you trying to have fun and not go broke. Next, was Beauty and Essex. The font is like a weird music room and then they open the doors to like this dark, staircase room. It just screams classy and sultry. I wish I had taken pictures of it, but also don’t wanna look like a dweeby tourist (I’m sure I’ll be back soon though). Also note the music was awesome, which means I was having fun even though I was kinda sober by then.

OOO I also went and got this baby:

It looked as good as it actually was, no lie. I got the seasonal spice flavor and damn was it good. 10/10 would recommend.

Saturday, we tried to do spooky Halloween bar crawl but the universe was not having it. Every place was having some sort of halloween thing, we needed tickets for which is annoying. One place went to literally said “oh its $175 dollars but it’s open bar and theres a burlesque show and a really awesome DJ” and I was like honey, do you have an idea how much I would need to drink for that to be worth it?? G-bye. So we ended up just going to random bars and looking at all the people in their costumes. We went to this one place called KeyBar and it was pretty cool, but then this british guy who was having an existential crisis kept talking to us. Saying shit like “oh I’m more than my accent” and “you’re getting drunk because you’re trying to forget something.” I literally said to him at one point “Dude its not that deep..” I was over it. Tried to get into another bar that was supposedly laying cool 80s music but,  had a cover which is so dumb this aint Fred’s free drinks I refuse to pay cover with no benefits. Might as well light my money on fire. Finally just settled on a few bars that didn’t feel like we were in the armpit of NYC. I guess this sounds like more of an un-success but I still had fun so whatever.

Not Your Mother’s Beach Babe Texturizing Sea Salt Spray on Amazon $5.91 (2 OZ)

I used to use this sea salt spray from lush that was, I wanna say $15? And when I asked the girl like “hey will this actually give me wavy hair? Like my hair never does that.” She was like “oh yeah totally.” Of course it didn’t and I’m annoyed that she pretended it would. At the same time, how would she know but still. Don’t advocate for things you don’t believe in sheesh. So I used that for a while and liked it okay but after I ran out, I just never got any more of it. I bought this one cause it has some pretty decent reviews and it smelled really good. I’ve given up on finding anything that makes my stick-straight hair wave, HOWEVER, this stuff makes my hair smell so good. When my hair dries, it dies. Its soon flat and feels thin i don’t know why. But this stuff give it life and not a bunch, but a perfect amount of soft volume.

Anyway, I was supposed to do this on Saturday but I was a little tired (and hungover) and rescheduled to Sunday where I vowed to get my life together. Okay so going in she was like, “just a heads up you’re gonna be overwhelmed cause we go super fast just try to listen to me instead of looking other people.” My visual-learner-havin-ass was like oh okay sure. So she was 100% right, it was fast as shit. She said to listen to her, but like most workout classes, they gonna play rave-y EDM music during the entire thing, so I could barely hear her. Most of the comedy ones were just comedians talking to themselves which is really strange to me or they would just be soo boring that I didn’t wanna listen anymore. I finally started listening to this one and fell in looovvveeeee. I know yawl all probably think I’m a serial killer now, but I promise its so fascinating knowing how these  murders thought, their lives, and how they got to where they are. (okay yeah that sounds weird to be into lol). Listen to one and I swear you’ll believe me,

Un-Success of the Week√

So the only thing I could think of for this was me getting hit(or pushed, nudged?) by a car this week looking at apartments. I’m totally fine btw, but this dude like was not paying attention and like kinda shoved me with his car. I had the right of way cause the little light thing was telling me to go so if I would’ve died I could totally haunt his ass and be justified. I didn’t fall or anything, but obviously my heart came out of my mouth and screamed for dear life like “omg i’ve barely lived plz no!!!” I then proceeded to have, what can only be described as an “adrenaline black out while being awake” and cursed this guy into the next century (i would never do that in my normal life so thats why I say I must have blacked out). Also if you tell this story to your mom, she’ll just say oh my god in a worried tone whereas your friends will laugh hysterically. I will definitely be paying attention more when crossing the street (apparently even crosswalkers need to be on defense who knew).

This Week Vibin

Sorry this one is LATE AF (and by late I mean, I never did one last week lol). I started a new job, so I work FULL TIME THANK U I DON’T HAVE TIME FOR THIS!!!@!#@!#@! (me forever for no reason about things I can definitely do). So maybe I should stop saying I’m broke???? Maybe I’m still broke who knows, I haven’t even gotten my first pay check yet. Okay on to the goodzzzzzzz.

NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer @ Sephora $45.00

I was kinda struggling on what to post here as far as beauty goes since I haven’t gotten anything new in a while. I decided just to show you a couple things I use already that you should all know and love as well okay. I love NARS tbh. I have tried their blush(more on that later), foundation, lipstick(I lost it somehow but it was a good one) and now their tinted moisturizer. I got this on a whim because Too Faced decided one day they were just not gonna sell tinted moisturizer anymore and didn’t even consult me on it. I like the light weight of tinted moisturizer just because my skin likes to breakout still even though I’m old, and when I wear foundation on the reg it tends not to like that. I haven’t bought this in a while (i am running out and refuse to go out and get more until every drop is gone from the bottle) and didn’t realize it was so expensive?? I’ll try to do better guys I just wanted a brand I could trust.

Nair Brazilian Spa Clay Body Cream on Amazon $8.49

Okay so I don’t use this particular product the way you’re supposed to fyi. You’re SUPPOSED to let this stuff sit on your legs and burn like the pits of hell in the summer, but I love myself so I don’t do that. Instead, I use it as shaving cream and that is the secret to life. For some reason I have yet to find something that gets my legs so smooth. Yes it smells like dog breath and farts, but it works, so just put some lotion on to mask the smell later.

MoYoTo Womens Genuine Leather Belt on Amazon $14.99

No I don’t make so much money at my new job that I can suddenly afford a Gucci belt- sheesh. I actually stole this idea from another blogger (lol) cause she posted an outfit with this and I was like ?!??!?! okay we’re the same age there’s no way she can afford a Gucci belt and I can’t????????? So I clicked on that shop the feed thing or whatever and saw that she tagged this as an option and I was like whhhaaaaattttt where has this been all my life even though I was never looking?? It’s great for my current NYC life cause I feel like I have to keep up with the 1% as you do.

Free Bread Inc. Gluten free bread at Whole Foods $9.00

My journey through veganism continues. I stopped eating gluten as well (idk if I ever mentioned that?), not because gluten is “bad for you” or because I’m allergic or whatever I just noticed that I am very bloated and kinda icky after eating normal breads and pasta and I would like to enjoy my pasta without feeling like I ate 70 pounds of food. I’ve tried a couple brands of this. Tbh Trader joes has a pretty good one, but the bread pieces are elf sized- so not really ideal. This one tastes like sour-doughy and spongy and very bread- like. I am impressed, and its made for people, not elves.

One of the best things about NYC is all the random free stuff that goes on around here. Which is especially good since everything else costs money so its nice to have a free thing once in awhile to break it up. Went to this like “oh who cares what I look like i’m just gonna sweat and I refuse to put on makeup that makes no sense.” Basically I left the house looking like a troll and my shoes matched my leggings which looked odd and OF COURSE the guys teaching the class were hot and Australian. Sometimes the universe just likes to laugh at me and I find it irritating. Anyway, as far as the class goes, it was really awesome. I burned 465 calories according to my handy apple watch which I don’t know if I’ve ever done before? It was a HIIT style workout, which means you do 3 rounds of three different workouts for 45 seconds on and 15 seconds rest. Each round is about 12 minutes and by the end you are DEEEAADDD. It was a fantastic way to start my Saturday which was filled with a brunch that was in no way gluten-free, but very guilt-free because of the workout. Also, funny side note, one of the Australians was like “Thanks for coming!” and I was so close to saying you too, but I caught myself 1 second too late so what I ended up saying was “You-uh yeah sure” which was basically a stutter. I have never wanted to crawl into my shirt and evaporate more in my life.

So since I got a big girl job, I needed a big girl bag (cause that’s how life works). I really needed something I could just keep a bunch of stuff in if I was gonna be in the city all day and no time to go home real quick (I live far af currently). It took me like all day to decide which bag to get. I went to both the Kate Spade store and the Micheal Kors store and all of their bags were about 300. I make money now, but I ain’t trying to spend no 300 dollars on a bag, at least not right away sheesh. So i decided to just be basic and go to Macy’s. Luckily, they were having a sale and I found this beauty for a little over 100! Which is pretty damn good for a tote bag that’s designer if I do say so myself. I also picked up this lil pom pom just cause it was cute. I definitely recommend it and its still on sale so grab it while it lasts.

Un-success of the week√

(change that yasss to nooooooooo). As stated above, I do love NARS. Their blush is one of my favorites because it’s not too pink, and tends to stay put very well. HOWEVER, this stick-blush is the bane of my existence. I bought it one day when I was running out of the powder blush just to try it, and I’ve been trying to make this shit work for literally months! It’s mostly due to the fact that my skin is not as smooth as a baby’s butt, so it doesn’t go on smooth, and when I try to smooth it around, it comes off. I hesitate throwing it away because money, but there’s really nothing else I can do with it. Still love u NARS.

Broke Ventures: Vegan Dessert?

Since I’m trying to save money for my big move, I haven’t bought any cool stuff to rave about. So instead, I decided to try something a little different where I try stuff people rave about and see if its actually worth all the hoopla.

This past week I followed a new Instagram account called thevegan8. On her blog, she makes vegan meals or desserts with 8 ingredients or less. Since I’m trying to be vegan, but also can’t afford to buy millions of strange ass ingredients called for, I decided to give a couple of her desserts a try. They all claim to be super good and good for you, so lets find out.

Vegan Zucchini Fudgy Brownies

I’m not really an avid Pinterest searcher or whatever you wanna call it, but when I started cutting dairy and carbs out of my diet in April, I was on Pinterest a lot (during my classes of course) just to get ideas on what to make. They had a bunch of recipes that substituted veggies for certain foods like pasta sauce and bread. This one really sounded interesting to me just cause I love brownies and wanted to see if they would taste good or gross and plant-y. I tried to make Cheese Its once that didn’t have any actual cheese in it (dairy-free) and claimed it “tastes just like Cheese Its!” They came out bone-ass dry and awful. So hopefully this goes better than that…

The ingredients were kind of strange and I feel like you can only get them from Whole Foods, especially the oat flour and vegan chocolate chips. Here are the ingredients I purchased!

So you need a food processor for this (although would a blender work?? who knows what the difference is tbh), and thank God I was at my mom’s because she had one cause I don’t be buyin that fancy shit. So anyway, this is what it looked like after grinding everything up:

Pretty normal I’d say. I added some sugar to mine, not sure if i really needed it but my brain just said to put a little sugar, so I did. The amount really wasn’t much, which was weird, but overall normal.

After adding chocolate chips and baking it, that bish was pretty good. As she said in some of the notes, the chocolate chips make it suuupppeeerrr rich, but very fudge-like and so good. Definitely a 10/10 would try again.

“Katie watched a video and now she wants to be a Vegan”-My Mom

“Ain’t no money in the cure, the money’s in the medicine…that’s how a drug dealer makes his money, on the comeback.” -Chris Rock

I decided to watch something ~informative~ this past week (mostly because I finished a show and didn’t wanna start a new one) and thought this would be a good one just so that I could be more aware of what I eat and how it effects me. What I was unprepared for, however, was for it to scare me off meat, cheese and EGGS! YES, EGGS- the thing I eat literally all the time!! Here’s a few things it claimed (backed by some doctors and video evidence) that scared the literal crap out of me and made me seriously think about becoming a vegan:

  • Eggs are not actually healthy because chickens are so tightly packed in cages that they are sometimes chilling next to their dead chicken friends (therefore the eggs that come out of them are contaminated with the grossness)
  • Meat is not the only way to get a lot of protein (this might be a “duh” but I didn’t know that honestly).
  • Huge “health” charities and informational places like the American Heart Association and Susan G. Komen get funding from meat and dairy providers in order to promote the shit (like putting their promotional material on yogurt) that causes the diseases they are trying to prevent like heart disease and cancer.
  • Also fish ain’t healthy either cause they eat all the #trash we put in the ocean and then we eat their plastic ingested bodies
  • Milk is not made for humans to drink therefore it is stupid for us to be drinking it (kinda already knew this from another source but there ya go)
  • Gorillas don’t eat meat????? and they’re buff af. Also their teeth are shaped exactly like ours so we’re made to be plant eaters (our canines are too small to rip through meat unlike dogs and cats)
  • This awful pig farm in North Carolina (or South Carolina literally can never remember which one they’re the same) sprays their grass with pig poop right next to peoples homes and then literally feeds their pigs with it (their own poop)
  • This alleged farm is also the cause of many people’s health problems? Considering the amount of poop they just fling into the air, not shocking.
  • Dead pigs just sitting in a giant bucket full of other dead pigs?????? in the sun???
  • Pigs with pus coming out of their BODIES. LIKE A CONCERNING AMOUNT (the worst thing I saw honestly)

So basically I am shook. Not surprised, but shook. What it boils down to is people get paid to say things that aren’t true and pretend that they are, which is something we are all very familiar with as Americans. Before you throw out all of your meat or throw some shade at vegans for being so gullible, DO SOME RESEARCH. Yeah these dudes that made the film can basically claim all of this stuff to be true, but they could be lying as well. THINK about what you put in your body and how it affects your health. If they make a claim as outlandish as saying eating packaged meats are as bad as cigarettes, look some crap up, see if there’s some truth to it. You really think that slimey ass meat is really that healthy? One thing that really stood out to me was when he said the food industry is always trying to confuse people. Think about how many times they go back and forth about if red wine is healthy for you, or if coffee is healthy or if bread is like crack or whatever. All the time. If you’re unsure about what’s really healthy, then you stop paying attention, which is exactly what I did. Basically the health industry makes money off of treating these diseases, so why would they want to prevent them in the first place?

Considering I barely eat carbs, being vegan would make my diet extremely limited and kinda boring cheese and chicken nuggets are life.  I have always rolled my eyes at people who were like “oh I crave nuts and berries and granola cause I’m just so healthy” and I am not that type of person. After watching this, I can’t really think of a good reason to keep eating some of this stuff other than, I like it and it tastes good. I’m not gonna lie and say I’m not selfish, but i’ve always been someone who thinks about the impact I have on the world around me. If eating less meat (notice I said less, but tbh cutting out pig meat altogether cause of that pus thing) helps out the environment in a small way and can improve my overall health? It’s definitely something worth looking into, or maybe I’m just gullible.
